All the trimmings

For once I followed the directions and decided to allow the white paint to cure for at least a week before applying painter's tape to mask for the red stripe. Last thing I wanted to do was mess up my new paint job! Plus, the wind was STILL blowing. And there are always other things that need to be done.
Back in December I had posted to one of my Yahoo trailer groups asking about where I could buy new aluminum drip railing. This is the trim piece that follows the outlining edge on the trailer. The original railing was in sad shape. And there was no way I was going to spend hours trying to straighten it out and polish it. You gotta pick your battles! This guy named Tom replied that he had some extra pieces left over from his '66 Cardinal. He joked that it was too bad we lived so far apart. Coincidentally, he lives only 1/2 hour from my parents. So we made a deal that my parents would pick up the railing and bring it to me over the Holidays. Another great score thanks to a fellow trailerite. Tom has offered many kind words of advice and encouragement to me over the last few months. Even though we have yet to meet face to face, we share a friendship based on our common affliction -- aluminitis!
Once again, out comes the butyl putty tape. I put sections of the putty tape on the trailer to secure the trim and seal the screw holes. I started at the lower rear corner. I followed the curvature of the trailer, using one screw at a time, and bent the aluminum rail into place. I was relieved at how easily the railing went up. No big scary problems or mistakes. This must be the reward for last week's frustrations with the painting. Nani even stuck around to keep me company. I think she was relieved that the rattle cans were put away ... at least for now. The shiny new aluminum looks so nice against the fresh white paint. I can only imagine how happy I'll be when the stripe is painted and I can install all of the other trim pieces. You'd think by my age I'd have learned to be patient! Well ... I'm a work in progress :)

  1. I'm so glad that at least the white part is done, and it looks good after all that taping! Of course Nani sticks around, she's too lazy to do anything else! I'm excited to see the final product, soon hopefully.

    Love,
your perfect daughter who should be studying.
