Spring has sprung!

Maybe you think its kinda funny that you get a weather update with each of my blog postings! Being a gardener and constant outdoor putterer, the weather is a big part of my world. And when Spring arrives in Sonoma County, I get absolutely swamped with work. In this day and age, I am grateful to be busy and overbooked. But then there is my trailer and a deadline coming up to have it presentable!
The warm days were perfect for laying a new floor. I found some very affordable vinyl floor tiles at Home Depot. A few weeks earlier, I had "practiced" by laying the flooring in the storage compartments. Once again, my trusty jigsaw proved the easiest way to cut the vinyl. Measure twice; cut once. Yea, right. The original tiles were a mess - some edges warped and small sections missing. And I had been warned not to try ripping up the old flooring - a nearly impossible chore and there might be asbestos. Yikes! But it is essential to have an even, level surface for the new flooring. I used Henry Patch 'n Level to smooth things out a bit. After it dried, I applied a goopy yellow adhesive to 1/2 of the floor area and left it to set up for 6 hours. Then the job of cutting and placing the new tiles. Once again, I was painfully reminded of how NOTHING in the RR is square or level. It's similiar to the Haunted Shack at Knott's Berry Farm! Like water could flow uphill in this trailer!! I did the first half of the floor that day and finished the rest the following weekend. There are a few funny splices, but overall it looks really nice. I can always use tiny throw rugs to cover up any imperfections.
I was fortunate that the RR had all 7 window screens when I bought her. But they were in bad shape. So for the thousandth time, I got out my steel wool and did some polishing. The frames cleaned up nicely. I bought a roll of new screening material and the spline that holds the screening into the frames. A few hours of work and I had nice, clean new window screens. Small things sure make a difference in how nice the RR is beginning to look. I'm really getting attached to the old canned ham!
