Ready to roll!

Without the vintage trailer community, I could never have gotten this far on the RR. A fellow enthusiast recommended a guy named Rick to work on my barrings and brakes. Rick is a "shade tree" mechanic. He gave up the confines and overhead of running a shop to be out on his own. My kind of guy! He came to my house prepared for just about anything - you never know what you might find with these old trailers. He pulled the wheels and sent me off to Les Schwab to purchase new tires. When I returned an hour later, Rick was all done. He repacked the barrings and made some adjustments to the brakes. Other than that, he said things were in good shape. He put the wheels back on, collected his $80. and agreed to come back and install the brake controller unit in my truck. What a deal for a house call! The RR could actually hit the road now!!
The first weekend I had the RR, I removed the old ice box. It is just about the only thing I didn't take pictures of initially. Luckily, I had all the screws and brackets labeled in a Ziploc bag. The icebox was originally surrounded by insulation and set in cardboard framing. Yucky stuff - it went in the trash immediately. The frame and door were really scratched up and needed to be repainted. I wanted to closely match the color with that of the oven / stove. After two tries, I am sort of satisfied with the medium shade of brown I chose. Now to get that sucker back into it's spot. Long story short, a few shims, some longer screws and it is all secured in place. Now I have a good place to keep my Dr. Pepper cold!
