Its getting really old - this business of polishing aluminum. I try to hit a piece or two each night so I can avoid the inevitable hand cramps that come with prolonged periods of buffing tiny objects. With only a few more trim pieces to go, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I've become a regular at my local Ace Hardware and Fastenal store. Dropping in to brainstorm painting techniques with Robert or discussing the various sizes of upholstery staples with Lloyd, they have taken on aspects of my project as if it were their own. A whole new world of best buddies! I may be doing this restoration by myself, but I do have a lot of help.
Yesterday, I reinstalled the interior window trim pieces. It was a bit tricky to get the trim all lined up again - this old trailer definitely did some expanding in the last 2 months! The real test came when I then tried to reinstall one of the windows. I carefully covered the outside edges with brand new putty tape. I held the window up into its place in the frame ... but I couldn't locate the old screw holes in the skin! So back out came the window. I had to pull each corner of the putty tape back so I could mark where to place the 4 corner screws. Ah, I just love the learning process. NOT! Problem solved and the window went in like a hand in a glove. Something like 20 screws to hold the smallest window in place. Good thing I have already ordered 200 more from Lloyd. I had hoped to get the other windows installed today, but miserable weather is keeping me inside. Guess I'll take a look at getting those curtains started. Can anyone tell me how to thread a bobbin??
